Niño Magpusao
Board Director
Niño Magpusao is a compassionate and determined advocate for individuals affected by Tuberculosis (TB), driven by his own personal battle with the disease. From 2008 to 2011, Niño faced the challenges of TB head-on, and having been TB-free for over 13 years, he has since devoted his life to supporting others on their journey to recovery. His firsthand experience with TB has endowed him with profound empathy and a deep understanding of the obstacles faced by those affected, enabling him to address their needs with both compassion and insight.
Since 2021, Niño has served as a consultant under the USAID project Tuberculosis Innovations and Health Systems Strengthening (#TBFreePH), a role he held until March 2024. In this capacity, he has been a driving force in media and advocacy efforts, working tirelessly to raise awareness about TB prevention and treatment. His involvement extends beyond advocacy; as a #TBFreePH Treatment Buddy, he provides peer-to-peer counseling to individuals battling the disease and actively participates in research initiatives, bridging the gap between affected communities and healthcare systems.
Niño has also proudly held the position of Vice President of TBpeople Philippines from 2020 until June 2024. Now, in his role as the Public Governance Officer of TBpeople Philippines, Niño is deeply committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical governance. His primary responsibility is to develop, implement, and oversee policies that not only align with the organization’s mission but also comply with the regulatory frameworks governing its operations. Working closely with the leadership team, Niño plays a pivotal role in advocating for policies that strengthen the National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) and in fostering strong collaborations with government agencies and key stakeholders. Through strategic planning, proactive risk management, and continuous capacity building, Niño strives to fortify the organization’s governance structures, ensuring that TBpeople Philippines remains well-positioned to make a lasting and profound impact in the fight against tuberculosis in the Philippines.
Through his tireless work, Niño has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the fight against TB, using his experiences to empower others and advocate for a world free from this devastating disease. His journey from survivor to advocate is a powerful testament to his resilience and dedication, making him an indispensable force in the global movement against TB.
