TBpeople Philippines Collaborates with Leyte Health Officials for TB Awareness Initiative
TBpeople Philippines continued its efforts to spread awareness about TB by meeting with Dr. Ronald E. Flores, the Provincial Health Officer Chief of Leyte, and other health officials, including Ma. Irma D. Lerios, PHO Technical Head; Kimberly Pearl Alvero, Provincial NTP Nurse Coordinator; and Karena Cleofe De Veyra. The main focus of the meeting was to discuss the Discipleship Program in Survivor aimed at empowering TB survivors by providing them with tools and knowledge to advocate for others in their communities. This program is designed to help survivors share their experiences and guide others through the challenges of TB treatment and recovery.
The team also discussed the creation of a City Association of TBpeople Leyte, which aims to build a strong support network for TB patients, healthcare providers, and community members. This association would foster collaboration and enhance the efforts to prevent and treat TB across Leyte. By bringing together various stakeholders, the association hopes to improve the coordination of TB-related activities and provide better support to those affected by the disease.
Additionally, the meeting provided important updates on the cascade of care and the current status of TB in the region. The discussion highlighted new and innovative regimens for drug-resistant TB, which offer hope for more effective treatment options. The team emphasized the need for strong local government support to strengthen TB programs and ensure these new treatments are accessible to patients. By working together, TBpeople Philippines and local health officials aim to improve TB care and outcomes for patients throughout Leyte, ultimately reducing the burden of TB in the region.
